Content Generation
Understand how PostPilot generates platform-optimized content using AI.
Overview
Content generation is the core feature of PostPilot. The platform uses a multi-stage AI pipeline to produce social media posts that are timely, on-brand, and optimized for each connected platform. Every piece of generated content begins with real-time data and ends with a polished, ready-to-publish post.
The pipeline consists of three primary stages: sentiment analysis to understand current trends and audience mood, copy generation using Google Gemini to craft captions and text, and image generation to create visually compelling graphics. Each stage feeds into the next, ensuring coherence between the topic, copy, and imagery.
PostPilot generates multiple post types automatically. For Instagram, a single content run produces feed posts, carousels with multiple slides, and stories in vertical format. Other platforms receive optimized feed posts tailored to their audience and formatting conventions.
You can trigger content generation from the organization dashboard with a single click, or run individual stages manually if you prefer more control. This guide explains each stage in detail.
Sentiment Analysis
Before generating any content, PostPilot performs real-time sentiment analysis to understand what topics are trending, what your target audience cares about, and what emotional tone is resonating across social media. This data-driven approach ensures that generated content is relevant and timely rather than generic.
The sentiment analysis engine pulls data from three sources: Reddit for community discussions and emerging trends, NewsAPI for current events and industry headlines, and Google Trends for search interest patterns. These signals are aggregated and weighted based on your organization's industry and target audience.
The output of sentiment analysis is a structured brief that includes trending topics, sentiment scores (positive, negative, neutral), and recommended content angles. This brief is passed directly to the copy generation stage as context, allowing the AI to write posts that tap into what people are already talking about.
You can view the sentiment analysis results for each content generation run in the organization's insights dashboard. This transparency lets you understand why the AI chose certain topics and refine your brand profile to steer future results.
Copy Generation
Copy generation is powered by Google Gemini, a large language model that produces natural, engaging social media captions based on your brand profile and the sentiment analysis brief. Gemini receives detailed context about your brand voice, target audience, industry, and the current trending topics to generate copy that feels authentic to your brand.
For each content generation run, PostPilot produces multiple post variations across your connected platforms. The AI adapts caption length, tone, and formatting conventions to match each platform. LinkedIn posts receive longer, more professional copy with paragraph breaks, while Twitter posts are concise and punchy within the character limit. Instagram captions include emoji usage and hashtag suggestions, and TikTok copy is written for discoverability with trending phrases.
For Instagram specifically, the AI generates a mix of post types: standard feed posts with engaging captions, carousels with a main caption and individual slide text for each image, and stories with very short, casual, engagement-focused copy. Carousel captions are structured to tell a narrative across slides, while story copy is kept to one or two punchy sentences designed for quick consumption.
Each generated caption includes a set of relevant hashtags, a call to action, and platform-specific formatting. You can edit any generated caption in the post editor before publishing, and the AI learns from your edits over time to better match your preferences.
Image Generation
Every post generated by PostPilot includes custom AI-created imagery. The image generation stage receives the post caption and sentiment context as input and produces visually relevant graphics that complement the copy.
Images are generated at platform-optimal resolutions and aspect ratios. Instagram feed posts receive square or 3:4 images, stories are generated in vertical 9:16 format for full-screen display, and LinkedIn and Facebook posts get landscape images. For carousels, the AI generates 3 to 5 individual slide images in parallel, each with its own tailored prompt to create a cohesive visual narrative across the slide deck.
The generated images follow a consistent visual style influenced by your brand profile. PostPilot extracts color preferences and visual themes from your brand description to maintain visual cohesion across posts. If a generated image does not suit your needs, you can swap it for a regenerated alternative directly from the post editor.
Full Pipeline
The full content pipeline chains all three stages together into a seamless automated workflow. When you click “Generate Content” on an organization dashboard, PostPilot runs sentiment analysis, then copy generation, then image generation in sequence. The entire process typically completes in 30 to 60 seconds.
Initiate Generation
Click the “Generate Content” button on your organization dashboard. A progress indicator appears showing the current pipeline stage. You can continue browsing the app while generation runs in the background.
Review Generated Posts
When the pipeline completes, new post cards appear on your organization dashboard. Each card shows the generated caption, media, target platform, and suggested hashtags. For Instagram, you will see a mix of feed posts, carousels (with a slide gallery you can browse), and stories (displayed in vertical 9:16 format). Each card includes a media type badge so you can quickly identify the post format. Posts are created in pending status, giving you full control over what gets published.
Edit, Schedule, or Publish
Review each post and make any desired edits using the post editor. You can then schedule posts for optimal times using the content calendar, or publish them immediately to your connected platforms.
Manual Generation
If you prefer more control over the content creation process, PostPilot also supports manual generation. Instead of running the full automated pipeline, you can create posts from scratch using your own creative assets.
The easiest way to create custom content is the “Have your own creatives?” button on your organization dashboard. This opens a guided 3-step flow: first select your target platform, then choose the post type (feed post, carousel, story, or reel), and finally upload your media. PostPilot's AI then analyzes your uploads and generates an optimized caption and hashtags automatically.
For carousels, you can upload 2 to 10 images that will become individual slides. The AI analyzes the first image to generate a cohesive caption for the entire carousel. For reels, upload a video file (MP4, MOV, or WebM up to 100 MB) and PostPilot generates an engaging caption. For stories, upload a single image — vertical 9:16 format is recommended for the best full-screen experience.
Manual generation is ideal when you have specific creative assets you want to use, but still want to benefit from PostPilot's AI captioning, scheduling, analytics, and multi-platform publishing capabilities.
